Circular economy update — EU PPWR 2026

The EU Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is moving into enforcement. Here is the practical impact on corporate merch packaging in Spain for 2026.

What PPWR actually mandates

PPWR sets minimum recycled-content thresholds for plastic packaging (10-35% depending on category), bans selected single-use formats from 2030, requires recyclability classes A/B/C on labels, and obliges economic operators to design for recyclability. For corporate merch this hits the gift box, the polybag, the filler material and the carrier bag.

How it plays in Spain

From the Madrid hub we now default every Spain order to FSC-certified gift boxes, paper void-fill (no plastic peanuts), kraft mailers and polybag-free where SKU geometry allows. Where polybag is unavoidable we use 80% recycled LDPE. All packaging carries A/B/C recyclability mark per PPWR. Billed in EUR excluding IVA 21% via FACe/SII (AEAT).

Numbers from Q1 2026

Across 142 Spain shipments in Q1 2026: 91% shipped fully polybag-free, 8% used recycled-LDPE polybags, 1% used virgin (rigid SKU geometry only). Average packaging weight down 18% vs 2024. Zero packaging-related buyer complaints. Compliance attestation issued with each delivery note.

FAQ

Does PPWR apply to my merch orders?

Yes — any packaging placed on the EU market, including merch packaging in Spain, is in scope.

Does PPWR-compliant packaging cost more?

Marginally — typically +EUR 0.10-0.40 per piece in Spain. Many corporate clients consider it net-neutral after marketing benefit.

Can you provide PPWR attestation?

Yes — a one-page attestation listing recycled-content percentages, recyclability class and certifications ships with every delivery note.
