Four conversations about how merchandise gets made

Four interviews: our founder on why we started, our production lead on what happens on the floor, our sustainability lead on certification, and a long-term client on what kept them.

Different sides of the same work

These four interviews cover different sides of the same work. The founder explains the decisions that set the shape of the business and why we turned down larger, easier work. The production lead talks about what happens between a proof and a carton: the strike-off that comes back slightly wrong, the colour that shifts on a dark garment, the reason a run gets held. The sustainability lead covers the difference between a certificate and a claim, and why we publish the scope of each certificate.

The fourth interview is with a client, and it is the one that tests the other three. They describe the programmes they ran, the ones that did not work and the corrections that followed. It is here because the useful part of a supplier conversation is usually what the client would do differently, and a client will say that more plainly than a supplier will. Each interview runs long enough to contain the disagreements.

The four interviews

Interviews can be read in any order. Together they are the clearest single description of how we work that we publish.

Questions about the interviews

Are the interviews edited?

Yes, for length and structure. Nothing is changed in substance, and no answer appears that was not given.

Why publish an interview with a client?

Because a buyer choosing between suppliers gains more from an honest account of what went wrong than from a list of claims.

Can we speak to the client directly?

Yes, where they are willing to. Ask and we will arrange it.
