Embroidery on aprons — Spain
Corporate aprons embroidered in Madeira Polyester thread on Tajima 15-head machines, produced from our Madrid hub with IVA 21% invoiced via FACe/SII (AEAT) and shipped across the peninsula.
Why embroidery works on aprons
The apron is one of the substrates where embroidery pulls away from competing decoration techniques: the fabric — 220-280 g/m² cotton canvas, 10-12 oz denim, waxed canvas or GRS-recycled polyester twill — holds stitch density without the finish sinking into the weave. The stitches lift off the surface and produce a tactile relief that signals craft and permanence, two attributes that match especially well with restaurant kitchens, bakery workshops, tasting rooms, ceramic studios, cosmetics labs, barista teams and premium catering operations in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and San Sebastián.
Unlike screen printing, embroidery does not degrade under the industrial 60-90 °C cycles required by HACCP for food contact. Stitches hold between 80 and 120 wash cycles before visible fray, depending on thread type. Madeira Polyester — one of the three threads we run alongside Coats and Gunold — survives bleach, alkaline detergent and UV exposure without tone shift. That is why hospitality programmes in Ibiza, Mallorca and the Costa del Sol lean toward embroidered aprons even when serigraphy would be cheaper at their MOQ.
Detail range depends on thread calibre: 40 (finest, small lettering and gradients) handles logos under 25 mm; 30 (standard) covers most corporate marks at areas up to 80×80 mm; 12 and 20 (heavier) are reserved for large lettering and chef-style decorative patches. We stock 220 Madeira shades in-house, and Pantone-coated specials are dyed to order at a €0.08-0.14 per-unit surcharge with a 5-7 working-day lead extension.
Use cases by sector and client type
Embroidered aprons appear most often in four Spanish market contexts. First, premium hospitality: five-star hotels (Mandarin Oriental Barcelona, Hotel Único Madrid, Marbella Club, Hospes Palau de la Mar Valencia), Michelin-starred restaurants (DiverXO, Arzak, El Celler de Can Roca, Tickets, Ricard Camarena) and artisan bakery workshops where the apron is part of the daily uniform. Embroidery usually sits on the left chest with the venue logo and optionally the staff member's name.
Second, tasting rooms and wine experiences: Ribera del Duero cellars (Vega Sicilia, Protos, Pesquera), Rioja houses (Marqués de Riscal, López de Heredia), Priorat producers (Álvaro Palacios, Clos Mogador) and Rueda wineries (Belondrade). Two apron versions show up here: a lightweight GOTS-organic cotton for tasting room, a heavier waxed-canvas one for harvest. B2B gift programmes to club members and VIP customers typically pair the embroidered apron with a bottle of the vintage.
Third, corporate team-building formats: cooking schools (Le Cordon Bleu Madrid, Basque Culinary Center, Hofmann Barcelona) and gastronomy events (Madrid Fusión, San Sebastian Gastronomika, Forum Gastronómico Barcelona). Aprons are handed out as participant kits and continue in domestic use afterwards, which extends brand life several months.
Fourth, cosmetics, laboratory and artisan trades: perfumery and natural cosmetics brands (L'Oréal España, Puig, Natura Bissé, Laboratorios Maverick), ceramic studios in Barcelona, woodwork shops in Madrid and Valencia, artisan pastry workshops. Here the embroidered apron signals craft and forms part of the daily uniform of professionals who have been on payroll for years.
Technical specs — Spain
We work six base substrates with their standard embroidery combinations. 220 g/m² cotton canvas in raw, natural or piece-dyed — the most versatile option, holds up to 8,000 stitches per area and washes at 90 °C without distortion. 10 oz 100 % cotton denim, indigo-dyed, for hospitality clients chasing an American/workshop look. 320 g/m² waxed canvas with water-repellent finish, ideal for sommelier and bartender roles because it repels wine, coffee and oil. 240 g/m² GRS-recycled polyester twill (65 % recycled PET, 35 % organic cotton), the preferred option for programmes with audited sustainability claims. Mixed-media apron with Ubrique leather straps, the €78-95 per-unit option for VIP gifting.
Stitch placement is agreed upfront. In hospitality, logos sit on the left chest 80 mm from the top edge, centred on the pocket when there is one. In winery programmes the chest-centre at 110 mm from the top edge is most common. In event programmes the main logo goes on the chest and the event date below it, both embroidered in Madeira 30 thread. On full-length aprons (ankle length) an additional stitch can sit on the lumbar area 200 mm from the bottom edge — useful for chefs photographed from behind.
Embroidery is programmed on Tajima TFMX-II 15-head machines, with a maximum placement area of 360 × 200 mm per placement. Logos with more than 12 colours are pre-separated to 6-8 unless the client insists otherwise. Backing is chosen by end use: paper tear-away for one-shot aprons, tear-away for hospitality, water-soluble for industrial application, ultrasonic cut-away for premium finishes. Each programme ships with a physical strike-off (embroidered sample) before serial production.
