DTF on hoodies — Spain

Corporate hoodies decorated with Direct-to-Film (DTF) on PET film, OEKO-TEX-certified pigmented inks and TPU hot-melt adhesive, produced from our Madrid hub with IVA 21% invoiced via FACe/SII (AEAT) and shipped across Spain and the Balearics.

Why DTF works on hoodies

The hoodie — 280-450 g/m² fleece, 320-380 g/m² french terry, heavyweight pullover — combines a lightly textured surface with enough dimensional stability to accept DTF transfers without wrinkles. The technique prints the artwork onto PET film with Epson i3200 piezo heads, applies TPU hot-melt powder adhesive and transfers to the garment with heat (160-170 °C for 15-20 seconds at medium pressure). Versus DTG, DTF handles shorter runs with lower unit cost and better consistency on dark substrates.

DTF shows three clear advantages versus screen printing and embroidery on hoodies. First, colour freedom: up to 16.7 million colours with correct ICC profiling, allowing photographic reproduction, gradients and multi-colour logos without additional screen cost. Second, run flexibility: cost-effective from 25-50 units without screen cost, making it ideal for short runs, samples, streetwear drops or fragmented-size team programmes. Third, durability: with correct application, it holds 50-60 domestic wash cycles before visible cracking, similar to plastic-based screen printing.

The substrates we work with are 50/50 cotton-polyester fleece (most common option, soft hand and balanced price), 100 % ringspun cotton 380-450 g/m² (premium option with more structured drape), 100 % cotton french terry (lightweight mid-season hoodie programmes), recycled fleece GRS 60 % organic cotton + 40 % recycled PET (for programmes with audited ESG claim) and blends with tencel or modal for high-end draped finishes. Standard sizes are XS-3XL with European or American pattern at choice.

Use cases by sector and client type

DTF-printed hoodies appear most often in five Spanish B2B contexts. First, engineering and operations teams at tech hubs (BBVA Tech in Las Tablas Madrid, Telefónica Tech in Distrito Telefónica, Glovo Barcelona, Cabify Madrid, Wallapop Barcelona, TravelgateX Palma) — the hoodie as everyday informal garment of the technical team, with frequent drops driven by hiring ramp.

Second, hospitality: hotel chains (NH Hotel Group, Meliá Hotels International, Barceló, RIU, Iberostar) and restaurants with personal branding (DiverXO, El Celler de Can Roca, Tickets, Ricard Camarena) that dress their teams in hoodies with small embroidered or printed logos. DTF allows full-colour logo reproduction when the brand manual requires a more graphic finish than traditional embroidery.

Third, amateur sports teams and sponsorships: running clubs (Nike Run Club Madrid, Brooks Run Club Barcelona), padel teams (APT Padel Tour, Bullpadel, adidas padel), amateur football clubs with local sponsorship. Here DTF handles name-personalised shirts, badges and crests at single-unit cost without penalty.

Fourth, retail and streetwear: digitally-native brands (Corteiz, Broken Planet, Represent, Lonsdale) and businesses with limited drops that need short runs with shifting artwork. Fifth, universities and business schools (IE University, ESADE, IESE, IE Business School, ICADE) that hand out hoodies with the programme logo to each cohort.

DTF technical process and specifications

The production flow starts with artwork processing in ColorPrint or AcroRIP RIP with the press- and substrate-specific ICC profile. Inks are pigment-based water-based (CMYK + white) certified OEKO-TEX Standard 100 class I and REACH SVHC < 0.1 %, APEO- and formaldehyde-free. Printing runs on dedicated DTF presses (Mimaki TxF2-75, Epson SureColor F2270) with variable-drop piezo heads (1.5-3.5 pL) that ensure native resolution of 1,440 × 1,440 dpi.

PET film is 75 µm with antistatic layer and corona treatment to improve wetting. Hot-melt powder adhesive (TPU or PES) is applied via mechanical agitator with overflow recovery (ratio 8-12 % adhesive relative to deposited ink mass). Transfer runs on a flat press or calender at 160-170 °C, 4-5 bar pressure, 15-20 seconds. Film peel can be hot (greater elasticity) or cold (greater definition), chosen by substrate.

Quality controls are applied at three points. Before production: colour profile verified with X-Rite eXact spectrophotometer and calibration chart; optical density measured on each primary and secondary colour. During production: visual inspection every 50 units for pixelation, bleed or coverage loss on flat areas. After production: ASTM D3359 tape adhesion test, ISO 105-C06 wash test at 40 °C for 30 minutes (5 cycles), visual inspection of coverage and definition.

Pricing, MOQ and Madrid lead times

Prices in EUR excluding IVA. IVA 21% added on Spanish B2B invoices issued via FACe/SII (AEAT). Intra-EU with valid VIES billed under reverse charge. MOQ by design: 25 units for a single design in a single size, 50 units to mix sizes or colours, 100 units for programmes with multiple print placements. From 250 units the 8-12 % volume tier unlocks, and from 500 units the 14-22 % tier.

Express 72 hours at +45 % subject to capacity. Series above 1,000 units are scheduled as a dedicated run with weekly progress reporting. Delivery is coordinated from the Madrid hub with the same bands described elsewhere: M-30 express, rest of peninsula 24-48 h, Balearics 24 h air or 4-6 days sea.

Compliance and certifications

DTF inks meet OEKO-TEX Standard 100 class I and REACH SVHC < 0.1 %. Substrates carry OEKO-TEX certification; GOTS and GRS options ship with verifiable transaction certificate on blockchain or via the certifier's serial number. The electronic invoice is issued with 21 % IVA broken out via FACe/SII (AEAT) in FacturaE-XML format with electronic signature, valid for supported IVA recovery by the B2B client in the quarterly return.

The quality policy covers print defects, colour misalignment, premature peeling and film breakage. Any incident is resolved by replacement, credit note or refund at the client's choice. For programmes with ESG claim, we deliver alongside each batch the transaction certificate of the GOTS cotton, GRS polyester or recycled PET film, as applicable.
