Corporate merch for startups and scale-ups in Spain
A working guide for Spanish startups, scale-ups and founder-led companies on how to brief launch kits, recruitment merchandise, investor packs, brand activations and corporate-event kits — at the speed and the budget the startup segment requires.
Why startup merch is its own brief
Spain's startup ecosystem — anchored by Barcelona (the Pier 01, the Movistar Centre, the Barcelona Tech City, the OneCowork, the Itnig ecosystem), Madrid (the Google for Startups campus, the Wayra campus, the Lanzadera-adjacent network, the La Nave ecosystem, the Impact Hub Picasso), Valencia (the Marina de Empresas, the Lanzadera campus), Sevilla (the El Cubo, the Sevilla Tech Park), Bilbao (the BEAZ, the Bilbao Metropoli-30), Málaga (the Málaga Tech Park, the Polo de Contenidos Digitales), and the long tail of regional hubs — runs a substantial merch programme at the intersection of recruitment, brand activation, and investor relations.
The brief is unusual because the merch has to do three things at once: communicate the brand at the launch event and the recruitment fair, work as a tangible artefact that the candidate takes home after the interview, and survive the rapid growth of the company (the brand mark at 10 employees is the same brand mark at 200 employees, even though the supplier list has tripled). The brands that brief well in this category treat the merch as part of the brand system, not as a marketing afterthought.
Launch kits
The flagship spend for any Spanish startup. A launch kit is usually produced at the seed or Series A stage, when the company is shipping its first product, hosting its first launch event, or onboarding its first 10–50 employees. The kit usually contains a notebook, a pen, a tote, a stainless-steel water bottle, a printed welcome card, and a small accessory (a sticker sheet, a pin, a phone stand).
The price ceiling on startup launch kits is tight. Spanish seed-stage startups typically spend €15–€40 per kit ex-IVA; Series A startups run €40–€80. Above €80/unit, the kits start to feel like marketing merch rather than launch packs, and the founder's burn-rate sensitivity kicks in.
Recruitment merchandise
The growing brief. Spanish tech companies — particularly in Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia and Málaga — compete hard for top engineers, designers and product managers. The recruitment tour runs from October to April each year, with stops in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Bilbao, Sevilla and a handful of European fairs (Lisbon's Web Summit, London's London Tech Week, Paris's VivaTech, Berlin's IFA).
The merch for the recruitment tour has to be light, branded, and packable. Cotton tote, notebook, sticker sheet, enamel pin, and a small accessory (a phone stand, a reusable straw set, a small tech accessory). Price ceiling €5–€15 per item ex-IVA. The order is typically 1,000–5,000 units across the season, replenished at three checkpoints.
Investor packs and board kits
The high-touch tier. Spanish startups run an investor-relations programme alongside the funding rounds. The investor pack is usually presented at the pitch meeting, the board meeting, or the due-diligence visit. The pack contains a printed deck, a small leather accessory, a curated Spanish product selection, a hand-written note from the founder.
Common items at this tier: a leather-look card holder (€25–€60, debossed), a stainless-steel water bottle (€15–€30, laser-engraved), a curated Spanish product selection in a bonded-wood box (€60–€150), a printed deck in cotton paper (€5–€15), a hand-written note from the founder (€1–€3).
Brand activations and event merchandise
Spanish startups exhibit at the major European tech conferences — Barcelona's Mobile World Congress and 4YFN, Madrid's South Summit, Lisbon's Web Summit, London's London Tech Week, Paris's VivaTech, Berlin's IFA, Amsterdam's The Next Web, Helsinki-based Slush. Each event needs a booth kit, attendee giveaways and a small press kit.
The brief is similar to other event briefs but with two additional constraints. First, the merch has to ship quickly — startups usually brief the supplier 4–6 weeks before the show, not the 6–10 weeks that corporate exhibitors use. Second, the merch has to fit the founder's travel kit — light, branded, packable.
Employee merch and benefits
Most Spanish startups run a small employee-merch programme — onboarding kits, anniversary gifts, internal event merchandise, recognition awards, off-boarding kits, and a benefits-programme allocation. The brief is similar to other corporate briefs but at the startup scale (10–200 employees, occasional spikes at 500 during a Series B).
Materials and decoration
Startup brand books vary widely — from the contemporary tech style (clean sans-serif typography, often a single Pantone, a minimal mark) to the consumer-DTC style (multiple Pantones, a more expressive lock-up, an emphasis on tactile finishes). Three decoration techniques hold the brand best on the items that startup briefs tend to use.
Silk-screen on cotton for totes, tees and hoodies. Solid Pantones hit Delta-E ≤ 2.5 reliably.
Embroidery on apparel and caps holds the startup's mark over years of wear.
Pad printing and laser engraving on hard goods — water bottles, pens, keychains. Pad printing for high-volume promotional items; laser engraving for premium investor packs.
Sustainability and CSRD documentation
Spanish startups reporting under CSRD or facing the EU's ESPR need documentation behind every fibre. GOTS-certified organic cotton for apparel and totes. OEKO-TEX 100 for skin-contact textiles. FSC paper for printed materials. GRS-certified recycled polyester for woven labels. rPET for hard goods. The certificate number — not the marketing claim — is what ties the merch back to the annual sustainability report and to the investor's ESG due-diligence questionnaire.
Logistics and tax
Production runs from the Madrid hub reach startup offices in Madrid, Toledo and Guadalajara next morning. Barcelona, Valencia, Bilbao and Palma arrive in 24 hours; Sevilla, Málaga and the Canarias in 48–72 hours. For events, we ship to the venue 24–48 hours before doors open, with stand-drop available at Fira Barcelona (Mobile World Congress, 4YFN), IFEMA Madrid (South Summit), and the major Spanish tech-venue campuses.
IVA 21% applies on domestic shipments. For international events (Web Summit, VivaTech, Slush), the supplier's invoice carries the export declaration filed by the carrier.

FAQ — corporate merch for startups
What is the typical launch kit budget?
€15–€40 per kit ex-IVA for seed-stage Spanish startups; €40–€80 for Series A startups. Above €80/unit, founder burn-rate sensitivity tends to push back.
How quickly can you turn around a recruitment-tour brief?
Standard 4 weeks from artwork approval to delivery at the recruitment-fair venue. Compressing to 2 weeks is possible at a +35% rush surcharge, but Pantone accuracy on the first run will be tighter.
Can you handle stand-drop at Mobile World Congress and 4YFN?
Yes. We have standing relationships with the freight partners at Fira Barcelona for Mobile World Congress, 4YFN and the satellite events. Stand-drop is standard for booth kits and recruitment merchandise.
Do you sign mutual NDAs for confidential Series A or Series B pitches?
Yes. A mutual NDA is standard for any startup merch brief that touches a confidential pitch, an unreleased product line, a competitive launch or a fundraising round.
Is Corp-Merch an official partner of any Spanish startup ecosystem?
No. Corp-Merch is an independent corporate-merchandise supplier. We have no partnership, sponsorship or official-supplier relationship with Barcelona Tech City, Movistar Centre, Lanzadera, Wayra, Google for Startups Spain, Marina de Empresas, BEAZ, El Cubo or any other Spanish startup hub. References to those hubs describe the Spanish startup landscape, not a contractual affiliation.
